Squawking

WOW!! we've got a lot of snow already and it's only 8 pm. If it keeps this up we will think it is last April. When I was walking in from the bus run I thought we had about 8 inches then. I know the snow was going over the top of my sorrels. Maybe if it is going to dump on us in March we will have nice weather in April. I hope so as there is a lot of things that need to be cleaned up in this yard. If this part is posted twice I apologize as the computer gremlins are busy tonight and swallowed up what I was writing and I couldn't find it again.

I got word today that the Census Bureau is trying to recruit people who would be willing to help with the census in their local area. It says the pay is about $11/hour and 50cents/mile. There will be a test for this in Deer River on Friday (it takes about 1/2 hour and plan to be there for 1 1/2 hours). For more information on this contact Sue Waas at 218-999-7615.

So far this evening only Blackduck and Northome Schools are running 2 hours late tomorrow morning. Nothing showing for Deer River, Bug School or Dist. 318 at this time. It was very slow going tonight on the back roads up by Gratten. The drifts were already coming out into the road.

I've been working today on the Fire Departments Take A Kid Fishing Day which will be June 6, from 9am to noon. It is a great day for the kids. After they go fishing they come back to the landing for lunch. Some years it is hamburger, hotdogs, brats, chips and pop. Last year the Red Lake Fisheries donated walleye so the fish was fried up for the kids. If any of you would like to help with being a guide for this event please let me know. Also, I'm looking for donations of rod/reel combos. I am hoping that we can collect enough combos and/or money to buy these so that each child will leave with a rod/reel combo. Any donations for this can be dropped off at Mertes Garage or Country Hair Care. If you have a boat but don't want to guide we often have extra guys there with no boat if you'd want to loan out your boat.

Don't forget Saturday is the Perch Jerkers Contest starting at 11am and going til 2 pm. Stop out on the lake and have lunch even if you don't want to fish. It is a great time for all. Starting at 5pm is the great St. Urho's Parade starting at Mertes Garage and going to The Hill. Come to Squaw Lake and enjoy the day.

Coming up next week: Week of March 15 to March 22
  • Max Township rescheduled annual meeting on Tuesday night at 7pm at the Max Town Hall.
  • Chili Supper on Thursday, March 19, sponsored by St. Catherine and Centennial Lutheran Ladies with donations going to Water For Life.
  • Saturday, March 21st starting a 7pm is the Sweetheart Dance with music by The Pretenders and Friends. Fun time for all.

If you have the day off tomorrow enjoy it. Baking is always a great past time when a person is snowed in. Otherwise, a good book is also something to enjoy.

Take Care,

Julie
